During recent years UFC has been ending the contract with a lot of former fighters who are not much active inside the Octagon to acquire new talent. Jussier Formiga is the latest fighter who gets scrapped off from the UFC contract.

Formiga holds a professional record of 23-8 in his MMA carrier. The main highlight of his carrier came when he defeated the UFC Flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo, at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs Pettis back in 2019. He won the fight by the unanimous decision of the judges.

But after that fight, Formiga has faced three consecutive losses against Joseph Benavidez, Brandon Moreno, and Alex Perez.  The baggage of three losses and not matching up with the new guys caused Jussier Formiga to lose his UFC contract.

Through the years UFC’s flyweight division has been very tough for the company to revive. The other division superstars are much popular than this division. Rumors are there that UFC is looking forward to scrapping more superstars because of the lack of attention on this division by the viewers.

Formiga leaves UFC after 8 years

Jussier Formiga

The fighter who caused Deiveson Figueiredo to face his only loss in his UFC carrier, Jussier Formiga is all set to say goodbye to UFC after eight years. When UFC introduced the flyweight division back in 2012, they signed him immediately.

But Formiga was never able to live up to the expectations, At that time he was considered as the top flyweight prospect when he was signed but multiple losses pushed him downward in the list of the contenders.

Formiga came close to the title many times but with a loss against the contenders such as Henry Cejudo, Ray Borg, and John Dodson he never got a chance to enter the title fight. Now at 35 years of age, his UFC carrier ended and we can only wish him the best for the carrier that lies ahead of him.
