The highly awaited UFC 5 game had its teaser released online. Many fans had an ecstatic feeling regarding the game and continued to predict the new potential cover athlete. Due to some teasing details in the video, many fans predicted UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski to become the cover athlete. To their surprise, the former UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko became the female cover athlete.
The new cover athletes were revealed on August 30 and the results had a mixed reaction from the fans. Further, many fans expected the new cover athletes to be someone at the top of their game. Fans named Leon Edwards, Islam Makhachev, and Charles Oliveira as some of the potential options. A fan even displayed his disappointment with a comment, “That’s not going to be good for sales.“
The former women’s flyweight champion is set to fight against rival Alessa Grasso in a rematch. Previously, the pair first collided on the co-main event card of UFC 285. Grasso successfully submitted Shevchenko in the 4th round of the fight. It became one of the most shocking upset in women’s MMA.
In summary, more deserved cover athletes were skipped in the selection. Further, fighters like Jon Jones, Charles Oliveira, and Sean O’Malley have made the UFC more entertaining. Their constant involvement in making the big events successful earns them the right to be on the cover of UFC 5.
Fans react to Valentina Shevchenko as one of the new cover athletes of UFC 5
On August 30th, EA Sports revealed the new line-up of the cover athletes for their new game UFC 5. In a tweet, Alexander Volkanovski and Valentina Shevchenko were revealed as the new official cover athletes for the game. Further, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will appear as a cover for the deluxe edition. However many fans were not in agreement with the addition of one of the athletes i.e. Valentina Shevchenko. Check out some of the fan reactions to the same.
Due to Shevchenko’s dip in performance, there’s a belief among fans that some other athletes deserved that platform more than the former women’s flyweight champion. Lastly, some of the active fighters in the UFC like Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev and O’Malley could have made the cover. The MMA community has had their say on the new cover and how they feel about it. The game is reportedly due to be released at the end of the year.
