For not only his highlight-reel finishes but Lewis is also loved for the kind of humour he possesses and more importantly, the diversity of funny videos in his Instagram account. No matter how scary he is inside the octagon, it’s near to impossible to hate Lewis. The former heavyweight title challenger is as real as it gets.
Lewis is coming off an interim-title fight loss to now the interim UFC heavyweight champion Cyril Gane, who will now fight the current undisputed heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou next year at UFC 270. Lewis has also fought Ngannou in a not so memorable fight that ended up in a decision in favour of Lewis back in 2018. With that said, Lewis is back-to-action this week against up and coming top prospect and former Philidelphia police officer Chris Daukas.
Derrick Lewis picks the interim champion to win for a title unification bout, states his personal reason
Lewis recently went through a post-fight media scrum for his main-event fight against Daukas at UFC Fight Night 199, on asking who wins the title unification bout between Gane and Ngannou, Lewis told who he is officially rooting for.
“I would like for [Cyril] Gane to win,“ says Lewis. “He seemed like a good dude, seem like a likeable guy outside of fighting, so I prefer him to win,” he continued. Talking about Ngannou, Lewis said “You know it is what it is, I always said ‘f**k’ that guy.'”
