UFC Fight Night London Paddy Pimblett Rodrigo Vargas lightweight bout prediction, odds and fight preview

Paddy Pimblett- Rodrigo Vargas

The main card of UFC Fight Night London couldn’t get any better on its return nearly after 3 years as fan favourite Paddy Pimblett goes against Rodrigo Vargas in the fight before the co-main event at lightweight. England’s own Pimblett is probably the biggest attraction for the London audience going tonight as the hype train is getting into his second UFC fight against a finisher in Vargas. Pimblett won his UFC debut last year via a first-round knockout of Luigi Vendramini.

UFC signing Pimblett last year was without a doubt the biggest signing by the biggest MMA promotion in 2021. Other than this fight, the main-card comprises heavyweights, #11 ranked Tom Aspinall finding his way to the top by facing the toughest opponent in #6 ranked proper veteran of the sport in Alexander Volkov. In the co-main event, famed lightweight Dan Hooker returns back to featherweight when he faces Arnold Allen. There is a record of 10 UK fighters fighting in tonight’s event.

Although Pimblett made his debut via knockout, there should be no doubt left on his submission skills. Take Pimblett to the cage side and he will put in a whole world of troubles that include either executing a flying armbar or a flying triangle choke position turned to an armbar extension. Pimblett cage side is also dangerous on the feet. As seen in his UFC debut, if Pimblett gets you, he will use his reach to push you towards the cage side, and then set up hooks in a wild brawl. Another thing that is out there but less noticeable is Pimblett’s back control is as tight as anyone could imagine.

Vargas likes to put pressure, just like Pimblett and has more knockouts than Pimblett, a higher-finish percentage and that Mexican blood of endurance in a fight. Vargas has a head kick knockout in his record, so a head kick is for sure there in his arsenal considering he is being overlooked as an opponent due to Pimblett’s magnitude as a potential megastar. Other than that, the 3 submission wins Vargas has secured come via different ways i.e. armbar, triangle choke and a guillotine.

Pimblett is the largest favourite on the entire card as -450 to Rodrigo as an underdog of +325.

Official Prediction: Paddy Pimblett to def. Rodrigo Vargas via submission in Round 1

Pimblett is more well rounded and experienced on paper than Vargas. Vargas, on the other hand, can have a scope of victory in stand up but Pimblett’s debut proves that he is ready to stand and bang no matter what and Pimblett has secured multiple knockouts as well before coming to the UFC. With the confidence and the ability to show from Pimblett’s side that he is ready to perform under pressure where he will be fighting in front of his home crowd, Vargas seems to experience much more problems skill-wise and mentally.
