UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Teixeira ; Preliminary results

We are hours away from what promises to be a blockbuster of a fight when Thiago Santos takes on Glover Teixeira in the main event. Here are the full preliminary results.
Preliminary results:
Bantamweight (opening fight): Gustavo Lopez vs Anthony Birchak
Gustavo Lopez def. Anthony Birchak via submission in round1: This was Lopez’s first victory in the UFC.
Birchak missed early with a flying knee attempt, which Lopez countered. Lopez followed with a hard right hand that dropped Birchak. While Birchak was able to get back to his feet, Lopez soon got him down again, and finished Birchak by rear-naked choke at 2:43 of the first round.
Winner : Gustavo Lopez def. Anthony Birchak via submission with the rear naked choke.
Welterweight: Max Griffin vs Ramiz Brahimaj
Max Griffin def Ramiz Brahimaj via 3rd round TKO: The fight was as brutal as it could get, with Brahimaj’s ear nearly torn off courtesy a nasty elbow by Griffin. Griffin and Brahimaj were trading blows against the cage early in Round 3, each man bloodied and battered, delivering more damage, when the ref decided to jump in and end the fight. Griffin thus defeated Brahimaj by TKO 2:03 into round 3.
Winner: Max Griffin def Ramiz Brahimaj via TKO due to stoppage
Featherweight: Darren Elkins vs Eduardo Garragori
Darren Elkins def. Eduardo Garragori via submission in round 3: Garagorri looked surprised by Elkins’ wrestling early on, as he struggled to put distance between them in the opening round. The efficiency of Elkins’ takedowns started to come down in the second round however, and Garagorri started with his jab and a straight left hand that opened up a small cut under Elkins’ left eye.
It was more of the same for Garagorri in round 3 until Elkins swung behind him and jumped on his back. What followed next, was Elkins putting on a body-triangle on Garagorri as he continued to stand near the fence and sliding the left arm under his chin for the finish.
Winner: Darren Elkins def. Eduardo Garragori via submission with the rear naked choke
Heavyweight: Alexandr Romanov vs Marcos de Lima
Alexandr Romanov def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via submission in round 1: In what was only his 2nd fight, Romanov pulled off a submission rarely seen in mixed martial arts.
de Lima landed a few hard shots on the feet. But Romanov was able to close the distance and take de Lima down. Romanov then put de Lima to sleep with an orthodox forearm choke, clasping his hands together and driving his forearm into de Lima’s neck until he passed out. Romanov won 4:48 into round 1.
Winner: Alexandr Romanov def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via submission with the forearm choke
Middleweight (final fight): Trevin Giles vs Bevon Lewis
Trevin Giles def. Bevon Lewis via TKO in round 3: Both fighters spent a large part of round 1 either out of striking range or clinched against the cage. While Lewis landed more strikes, it was Giles who had the advantage with the significant strikes. His speed kept him safe and put Lewis on the backfoot.
Giles was faster, and that allowed him to land a clean punch and step just out of range on multiple occasions in the first two rounds. When Lewis came out for the final five minutes more aggressively, Giles had an answer for that too, using his speed to land a pair of hard right hands that collapsed Lewis against the cage at 1:26 of Round 3. The ref had to step in to call for the stoppage.
Winner: Trevin Giles def. Bevon Lewis via TKO due to stoppage
That concludes the action in the prelims, as we move on the main card next.
