Former two-division champ, Georges St-Pierre is widely regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists to ever step inside the octagon, he holds a 3rd-degree black belt in Karate, and a 1st-degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He’s been doing MMA for a long time, and even after his retirement, he stays connected to the world of MMA, and he never shies away from sharing his expertise with the rest of the world.

He holds very high regard for another MMA legend, Bas Rutten, and he is currently working with him for the betterment of Karate. They want to make it the number sport in the world, and their efforts are commendable. In a recent video with Lex Fridman, GSP shared some tips to survive a street fight, and while talking about street fights, he claimed he would rather face Francis Ngannou in one than Bas Rutten.

Rutten was an absolute killer in his time, and if you know how great he was, you would know why GPS choose Ngannou over him, In a street fight, I would rather fight Francis Ngannou than fight Bas Rutten,” said Georges St-Pierre. “In a street fight [that is]. In the street, there is no referee, and there is an instigator and there is the other person. The best in life for a street fight is always do not be an instigator because then, you have the element of surprise.

Georges St-Pierre also explained how one can defend himself if they get in such a situation, GSP started by saying, “So the first thing is if you’re in an argument and you feel that the heat is rising, you need to hit first, you don’t wanna fight but you want to hit first..you wanna hit first you know, so boom! hit first depending on the situation, if you’re someone who’s much less physically strong than the aggressor you can attack the genitals and the neck, and then you can leave the scene.”

GSP then asked the viewers to always try to run away from the situation as soon as they get a chance, he then said that since he is a former UFC champion, he doesn’t need to run away from a fight, well this is considering someone is stupid enough to actually challenge GSP for a street fight.

“However if I’m at a distance, and the minute he touch me, he declare a war! Now I can go and perform self defense move. Always strike first, and leave the scene. For example, a kid or someone who’s not physically..doesn’t have the physical strength like you aggressor. Of course, I’m a UFC champion, so that doesn’t apply to me. But the key is, on a technical note always use the element of surprise, and when you strike, strike first, and strike to cause the most damage as possible,” GSP concluded.
