Calvin Kattar after an entire year out sitting on the sidelines returned to the octagon with a dominating and very convincing performance against Giga Chikadze on Saturday night at the main event of UFC Vegas 46.
Chikadze started out well showering kicks and mixing in some punches to the body of ‘The Boston Finisher’. However, an unfortunate slip on the mat while trying to land a head kick led to his loss as Kattar took advantage of the situation and held out on a grappling match for the entirety of the first round whilst trying to land a submission on the Georgian.
Chikadze didn’t lose focus and continued to connect with his shots but Kattar’s ability to close him down and keep the ‘Ninja’ on the back foot started to pressurize Chikadze as Kattar hit him with jabs and threw a few elbow strikes which dealt real heavy damage causing Chikadze to bleed all over.
Kattar dominated the entire fight and though Chikadze did connect with many of his shots, the American seemed to walk through the strikes and was just ferocious in his approach.
The judges scored the fight 50-45, 50-45, and 50-44 declaring a unanimous decision win for the No. 5 ranked featherweight contender.
The fight itself was gruesome but a picture shared on the Internet later by Giga Chikadze showed just how dangerous Calvin Kattar is to the other fighters in the division as the Georgian’s face looked completely battered.
Giga Chikadze looks absolutely broken in a post-fight picture
Giga Chikadze took very heavy damage in his loss against Calvin Kattar at UFC Vegas 46 and it could be seen in a picture he shared on social media.
Chikadze uploaded a picture with Calvin Kattar tagging the American and captioning, “Respect“. The picture, however, spoke a lot about the devastating power Kattar had as you could see Chikadze’s face bloodied and brushed all over.
His right eye was blackened and completely closed while he had deep cuts right over his eyebrow and below his eye and bruises covered most parts of his face and his nose seemed to be broken from the fight.
This just goes to show how dangerous of a sport MMA is and fighters risk their very lives inside the octagon and how they keep up the will to continue fighting is just beyond astonishing, but credits to Chikadze for how he kept himself composed and traded shots throughout the entirety of the five-round fight.
Chikadze in the post-fight press conference called out the ‘Korean Zombie‘ for his tweet after his loss to Kattar so a future fight between the featherweights could soon be on the cards.
