Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns
Everyone is all amped up, this weekend, for what was a prophesized matchup between Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev.
The two top welterweight contenders are set to square off on the main card of Saturday’s UFC 273 pay-per-view event.
The two opponents, Chimaev and Burns got the opportunity to size each other up, when they bumped into each other at a hotel. The two showed immense respect for the other as they crossed paths in Jacksonville, Florida.
Khamzat is current on a 4 win streak, with his last victory being over Li Jingliang via first-round submission at UFC 267. Burns on the other hand is hot off a unanimous decision victory over Stephen Thompson. Burn’s victory is right after his loss to the Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman.
Both are to benefit from this as the winner of this matchup will be mostly rewarded with a shot for the welterweight title, thus having to face their Nigerian Nightmare.

Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev both reduce their competition
Despite seeming to be courteous, the pair, Khamzat, and Gilberthave been going at each other in the wake of their Promo Video and while it all smiled, things are going to get interesting once the two set foot in the ring.
Khamzat feels he is the superior fighter in the whole of the welterweight division and has the chance to set the record straight at 273. In the UFC promo video, Khamzat says, ” The people talk about top, top 10, top 5, doing these things. If somebody stands in my way, I’m going to kill them. Don’t stand in my way. I’m here, undefeated, undisputed, I’m the champ, I’m the king, I come for everyone.”
Burn definitely doesn’t agree with him. In the Media day of UFC 273, while commenting on Khamzat, he tells, “(Chimaev is) Nothing special. I think his wrestling is very good. His control, his ground-and-pound is good. And the fact that he’s very long helps, too, so he gets good grips, good control, knows where to put the weight. Very technical, hits hard.”
He goes on to tell, “I give this guy the opportunity. I want to fight him because I believe he’s very good, but I don’t see a monster, I see a human being. Confident, a little bit cocky, undefeated, thinks he’s the best, untouchable – but we shall see. We shall see Saturday.”
Gilbert has always been the underdog in every fight and proved that he was being underestimated. So it will be fun to see who shall emerge Victorious at UFC 273.
