“Ready to fight Adesanya right now”- Glover Teixeira demands an early title shot for Alex Pereira
Glover Teixeira on Alex Pereira
UFC fans will witness an immensely significant non-title fight, only for the future of middleweight title contention when Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira will be officially down to fight each other in late July. Ever since Strickland’s move from welterweight to middleweight, the Xtreme Couture product has been on a six-fight winning streak, and Pereira holds two wins over the division’s champ, Israel Adesanya.
Pereira is most highly known for his legendary status as a notable kickboxer, for he is the man responsible for defeating current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya back during the champ’s days as a kickboxer himself. As of now, Pereira is 5-1 in his overall MMA career with 4 wins coming by the way of knockouts. Pereira is looking forward to rising to the middleweight rankings as rapidly as he could so that he grabs the middleweight title irrespective of if there’s Adesanya or not by the time he reaches the top.
Brett Okamoto from ESPN MMA broke the news of this fight via his Twitter handle, he wrote, “Super interesting matchup in the works for UFC 277 on July 30 … Sean Strickland vs. Alex Pereira is verbally agreed to, per sources. Has the look of an all-action fight on the feet. No official location for this card yet.”
“Bruno for sure is tougher than Sean Strickland”- Glover Teixeira issues a bold statement about Alex Pereira’s next opponent
Alex’s last fight was against Bruno Silva and it was a grueling fight, to say the least. After a constant back and forth, Alex secured the victory via decision, and his teammate, and mentor, Glover Teixeira believes it gave him enough experience to fight for the title. While talking to The Corner MMA, Glover said, “He’s ready. He’s definitely working his ground, he’s improving every time. He has very good standup, very good at the distance, and is just a very mature fighter. I think he’s ready to fight Adesanya right now.
“The next fight with Sean, I think it’s going to be a great fight for Alex, and what he wants is to get there. To get there and fight. I think Bruno for sure is tougher than Sean Strickland, in my opinion,” Teixeira said. “Just the striking, he hits very hard. I think Bruno for sure is tougher than Sean Strickland,” Glover concluded.
