“He thinks he’ll get Charles Oliveira”- Ryan Clark reveals who Conor McGregor should fight next on his return

Ryan Clark- Conor McGregor

UFC megastar Conor McGregor is not too close to be returning for a title fight, but definitely a name powerful enough to fight a top contender. McGregor was last seen at UFC 264 when he fought and lost the fight against Dustin Poirier due to a doctor’s stoppage resulting from a fractured shin bone. Following a surgery that took place last year itself, it seems McGregor has recovered from his injury and now looks ahead to fight sometime in early fall if things sail smoothly in the fight business.

The Irishman who was the first-ever double champion of the UFC that held 2 belts simultaneously i.e. the lightweight and the featherweight titles, believes that he should be fighting the lightweight champion for the title on his return. Currently, that champion is Charles Oliveira who’s looking forward to UFC 274 to defend his title for the second time against Justin Gaethje. The winner of Gaethje and Oliveira is most likely going to fight the winner of a fight between Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush.

Ryan Clark has not one but two suggestions for Conor McGregor at two different weight classes

ESPN Correspondent and former NFL player Ryan Clark took on his MMA segment titled DC & RC Show to talk about the best fight to make for McGregor on his return. The DC and RC show is held on a weekly basis and is hosted by Clark and his co-host, MMA legend and former UFC double champion himself in Daniel Cormier.

“Conor McGregor keeps behaving like he’s gonna come back and get an opportunity to fight one of these guys that are fighting for the title, he thinks he’ll get Charles Oliveira, he thinks he will get Justin Gaethje. Somebody I would like to see him fight… is Michael Chandler,” says Clark.

“I would love for Michael Chandler, especially if he [Chandler] beats Tony Ferguson to get an opportunity to fight Conor McGregor, that’s a fight we know that’s going to be explosive,” continues Clark followed by stating Michael Chandler’s fight of the year against Justin Gaethje back in November 2021 at UFC 268, so that makes Chandler somewhat exciting, fun and someone who’s beatable since he is 1-2 in his first and last 3 UFC fights.

In case McGregor doesn’t want to cut all the weight and would rather prefer to fight at 170 lbs i.e. welterweight, McGregor should be fighting Colby Covington, who’s just coming off a win against a former friend turned bitter rival Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. For Clark, both fighters would build the fight up in such a way through their trash talk that will absolutely attract a massive number of fight fans.

What do you make of Clark’s assessment and suggestions for McGregor’s opponent on his return? Who do you think McGregor should be fighting next? Do you think McGregor will be granted a title shot on his return? Do you think McGregor can become a world champion, again?
