“He wanted this,”- Kamaru Usman claims what stands out the most about Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal epic showdown at UFC 272
Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington- Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal
UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman might go down as one of the greatest fighters of all time sooner or later, but the fan in him never dies, even if it means being excited about the men he already beat twice. Usman rival for UFC 245 and UFC 268, Colby Covington is going to face Jorge Masvidal, who fought Usman at UFC 251 and UFC 261. Although Usman came out victorious in all the four PPV events, this doesn’t mean that the losers aren’t any less of a draw themselves, in fact they are a block buster event on their own when they fight will each other.
Covington is going to face Masvidal at UFC 272 this weekend as the former teammates and best friends of almost 8 years have turned bitter rivals since 2019 and are now going to avenge on each other for a huge box of personal reasons. For Masvidal, Covington never paid his coaches who were also Masvidal’s coaches as Masvidal was the one to introduce them to Covington. For Covington, he just wants to shut Masvidal up for talking tons of trash about him.
Kamaru Usman believes Jorge Masvidal has been Colby Covington’s big brother during their teammate days
In an interview with Megan Olivi working with ESPN, Usman talks about his future in fighting, his hand’s recovery process and more importantly, the upcoming main-event of UFC 272 between Masvidal and Covington. Usman therefore talks about the highlighting part coming into the fight week.
“What stands out is the fact that Covington wanted this,” says Usman “This guy [Masvidal] was already a professional fighter and he’s allowing you to come into his home… he [Masvidal] was the only one really kind of making a little bit of money but he was able to allow you to stay with him and so you see kind of that big brother type figure in him but then years later you chose to ask for the fight, you asked for it. So that tells you a little bit of something there as far as you know kind of confidence that Colby has going into the fight,” said Usman.
This is rather surprising element that Usman brought to the table as an exciting element of the main event of this week’s fightcard, because Masvidal in the past claimed during the booking of the fight that Covington denied this fight a record 3 times before finally taking the fight on the fourth go. Now, who do you think it’s going to settle the better scores of the matchup and come out victorious, Masvidal or Covington? Would the winner be getting a third title shot in the near future?
