“He was never injured”- Alexander Volkanovski rips into Max Holloway for wanting to become the backup fighter for UFC 273

Max Holloway-Alexander Volkanovski

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski recently reacted to preceding featherweight champion Max Holloway’s offer to be the backup for Volkanovski’s fight against Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273 and “The Great” is not happy about it. Volkanovski was originally scheduled to fight Holloway himself and that too was a PPV before at UFC 272 in March, which is now headlined by Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington’s welterweight showdown.

But after Holloway got injured in training right after the day of the announcement, Volkanovski started surfing through various options for an opponent and Chang Sung Jung came out to be the most feasible one, later on, the fight was shifted to April at UFC 273. Now, Holloway is most likely to fight the winner of this title fight.

Holloway and Volkanovski have fought each other twice before they were heading to the trilogy. The first time happened back in December 2019 when Holloway was the champion, Volkanovski defeated him via unanimous decision. The second happened in August 2020, this fight was one of the closest-ever and many people thought Holloway won, but the judges had it for Volkanovski via split decision.

Who do you think wins the trilogy? Who do you think wins between Volkanovski and Jung at UFC 273? Should Holloway wait for his title shot or should he get into a fight since he is cleared to fight? Who do you think is an ideal opponent for Holloway if he should get into another fight before his title shot?
