“He will get him out,”- Kamaru Usman lands a shocking prediction ahead of UFC 272 main event between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal
Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal
Who better than UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman to tell about who wins between his former 2-time title challengers and rivals, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Usman, who’s on the leading list of the UFC’s Pound for Pound rankings has spent 50 minutes with Covington inside the Octagon and a little more than half an hour against Masvidal in order to defend his title. Four of Usman’s five title defences, which sums up to 80%, come from fighting just these 2 fighters, which, irrespective of the fact that Usman defeated them both, tells a lot about both the fighters’ callibre.
Covington and Masvidal are going to fight each other at UFC 272 and the build-up is already a prophecy in itself which says that this might go down as one of the baddest rivalries in UFC history. Covington is a pressure striker who gets the nod for having the threat of a takedown and can therefore grapple and make his opponent tired till the end of the fight. Masvidal on the other hand is a vicious, creative and deceptive striker with unforeseen setups that result in a cold knockout of his opponents.
Kamaru Usman thinks Masvidal is a finisher, but Covington can take the fight to distance
In an interview with Megan Olivi at ESPN MMA, Usman gives a detailed history and breakdown of his fights with Masvidal and Covington, leading up to a variety of differences between the fighting styles of both the fighters, which leads up to his final word, his official prediction for the main event this weekend at UFC 272.
“My prediction is Jorge Masvidal could, in an exchange land something that potentially gets Covington out of there,” said Usman “Or Colby Covington can go there get a hold of him [Masvidal], drag him down, make him stand, drag him down, exchange with him, get a hold of him, drag him down and just slowly wears on him and wears on him until he is able to squeak out that unanimous decision.“
What do you make of Usman’s assessment on how the fight will go in case it favours either one of Masvidal and Covington? Who do you think gets the job done? In a grudge like this, there has to be some truth where one is wrong and the other one is right, do you think the winner somehow also gets the ball for being the right one in the rivalry automatically?
