“King is back,” Henry Cejudo doubles down on returning to the octagon for the featherweight title fight
Henry Cejudo
Combat sports legend Henry Cejudo is officially not done from the competition and is hence taking all the prerequisites seriously in order to be eligible to compete again, inside the Octagon. Cejudo, the former 2-division champion of the UFC and the Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling, retired back in April 2020 leaving the sport on the top after being the first person to knock out former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.
After that, Cejudo was living the ideal post-retirement fight, from coaching greats like Jon Jones and champions like Deiveson Figueiredo, to co-hosting famous podcasts- one of them alongside boxing legend Mike Tyson, and finally becoming a father to a baby girl. Cejudo seemed to be in peace with life until he saw more potential within himself and more goals to achieve outside.
Cejudo, since last year, has been advocating the UFC to make his return possible only and only for a title fight in what will be the third weight division Cejudo will be competing in, there he wants to grab the gold from the current champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Henry Cejudo believes he has still got what it takes to be the champion
However, the UFC is not going to hand Cejudo a title shot right away with an abrupt break from retirement, as per UFC President Dana White. So if Cejudo has to return, he might have to come for more than just one fight. But Cejudo seems to have taken the challenge and therefore announced on Twitter once, at the night and in the aftermath of UFC 273 that he is entering the drug testing pool as organised by the US-Anti Doping Agency to compete fairly.
Cejudo has now written another tweet saying “No cringe. Just straight talk. I’ve entered the USADA pool. I know I could beat @alexvolkanovski. I want to become the 1st 3-division champion in UFC history. Or, he could shut up the cringe. It would be a treat for fans. Either way, the [crown emoji] is back!”
Alongside this tweet attached is the video of Cejudo affirming that he can “beat Volkanovski” as well as not only beat him but “outsmarting him, outwitting him” as Cejudo believes he still has all the tools to pull off a massive upset for MMA history but leaves it on the UFC and the fans to make it possible.
What do you make of Cejudo making his return loud and clear to the MMA community? Are you excited about his return? Who do you think should Cejudo fight in his return in order to pave way for his title shot efficiently? Cejudo is one of the most talented and skilled people in combat sports history, and the first fighter to defeat MMA great Demetrious Johnson in his prime and dethrone him from the flyweight championship reign. For sure the “Triple C” is a maestro of his art.
