The former UFC strawweight champion, Zhang Weili lost her title against Rose Namajunas in the co-main event of UFC 261. This loss ended her 21 fight winning streak and it resulted to be the biggest loss of her MMA career.
Since this loss, Weili has been ailing to win her title back and now she is booked to face Namajunas in a rematch at UFC 268. Zhang Weili revealed multiple reasons for losing the title against Rose Namajunas in the first fight but the major one of them was the crowd being so hostile that her focus got disturbed.
The first-ever Chinese-born UFC champion really did receive a hostile welcome from the crowd, but now she is utterly focused on the rematch. Weili shifted her training camp to the U.S. and now she is training with some of the greatest MMA fighters of all time such as former two-division UFC champion, Henry Cejudo, former two divisions Bellator champion, Patricio Freire and Chan Sung Jung.
Weili knocked out Jessica Andrade to win the UFC women’s strawweight title and then she defended it against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 which turned out to be the fight of the year in 2020. Now Zhang Weili is determined to get her title back at any cost.
Henry Cejudo takes multiple shots at Rose Namajunas and supports Zhang Weili
Zhang Weili knows that her rematch against Rose Namajunas is the biggest match of her MMA career and she desperately wants to win her title back and reign over the women’s strawweight division. Ahead of her rematch, Weili’s training partner, Henry Cejudo took the route of social media to spice things up.
Cejudo shared a photo of him and Weili training together, with a caption that says, “Lock your doors, hide your thugs and give us all the roses because Weili 2.0 is coming”. Henry Cejudo is one of the most tactical fighters in MMA and having trained alongside him will certainly give an advantage to Zhang Weili.
