“He’s an a**hole,” Dana White reacts to Colby Covington ‘crossing the line’ at UFC 272 with trash talk
Dana White talks about Colby Covington
Colby Covington might be helping the UFC sell massive numbers in PPV with his personality but UFC boss Dana White believes the welterweight fighter has no “man code”.
UFC 272 featured one of the biggest grudge fights in the history of the promotion as friends turned enemies, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal took on each other in the main event of the blockbuster PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The lead up to the fight sure did get everyone to tune in to the main event but like many others, Dana White too, believes Colby crossed the line with his trash talk
Covington is known to get a little cheap with his insults to try and get under the skin of his opponents and he sure did use everything in his arsenal to come at Jorge Masvidal. The fighter eventually got the better of his rival with a win via unanimous decision. After the win, Covington went on to call out another rival, Dustin Poirier by insulting him.
“He’s an asshole. Would anybody disagree with that? Even he [Colby] would probably agree with that. I respect the kid,” said Dana in the post-fight press conference of UFC 272. Colby is notorious for involving his rival’s family in his insults and Dana clearly does not like that.
“It’s called man code,” Dana White gives his take on Colby Covington talking about fighters’ family
Leading up to this fight, Covington made sure to attack his former teammate from American Top Team in the cheapest ways possible. Masvidal also spoke about the “Chaos” crossing the line by talking about others’ personal issues, parents, kids, and wives. However, Covington doesn’t seem to have a problem with it as long as the tickets to the fight are sold.
Dana agrees with Masvidal and says that Covington crosses the line while talking about his rival’s personal issues. “I agree with that too. It’s called man code. You either have it or you don’t,” said White suggesting that Colby does not have the “man code”. Despite the cheap insults, White has always awarded Colby for his performances inside the octagon.
The UFC has always been very skeptical about telling their fighters what to do. Dana believes he has no control over what the fighters say and the company will only take action on how they perform inside the octagon.
