“He’s the biggest threat”- Henry Cejudo believes Khamzat Chimaev could test Israel Adesanya’s wrestling

Khamzat Chimaev- Henry Cejudo- Israel Adesanya

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya made a statement when he successfully beat Robert Whittaker for the second time straight at UFC 271. However, UFC Welterweight Khamzat Chimaev didn’t seem to be impressed at all! Despite Whittaker’s constant takedowns, Adesanya never gave much of an advantage to the former champion and always rose up from the ground as quickly as he fell in the first place. It seems like Adesanya is most likely going to face #3 ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier.

Chimaev, who reacted to UFC 271 main event by threatening to finish Adesanya in a fight against him within the first round, last fought at UFC 267 when he came off a year layoff due to Covid-19 and submitted Li Jingliang within the first round. Chimaev is 10-0 in his overall MMA career and 4-0 in the UFC, but in a total of all his 4 fights, Chimaev has been hit only twice, the first 2 fights were rather fought within 10 days. Chimaev is put into works by the UFC to fight #2 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 in April 2022.

Former UFC double champion and Olympic champion Henry Cejudo took it to his show title “The Triple C & the Schmo Show” he co-hosts alongside sports journalist Dave Schmulenson to react to UFC 271 post the fightcard. In addition to that, Cejudo also reacted to Khamzat Chimaev tweeting in reaction to Adesanya’s performance at UFC 271 which goes along the lines @stylebender easy money for me, 0 wrestling. 1 round I’m gonna kill him”

“I love Chimaev man,” says Cejudo “I don’t want him to fight my boy ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ [Kamaru Usman, UFC Welterweight Champion] but I would love for him to go out and really demonstrate people how it’s supposed to be done with the wrestling, you know what I mean. I think Chimaev is special I think he’s proven a dude and you know he’s the biggest threat right now, he’s the hottest prospect, he’s the hottest contender to become the next UFC champ,” Cejudo concluded.

What do you make of Cejudo’s inference of Chimaev being the biggest threat to Adesanya’s progressive grappling skills to avoid being on the ground for long? Who do you think would’ve won between Chimaev and Adesanya? It’s attributed to Chimaev’s grappling that he has been nearly untouchable. This is somewhat of a very godly aura that only Adesanya would be able to break away with his masterclass striking if the fight ever goes down.
