Paddy Pimblett stuns Dana White with his performance at UFC London
Paddy Pimblett delivered as promised and blew the roof off the O2 Arena at UFC London and UFC boss Dana White couldn’t be more impressed.
Dana White did not want to get on the Paddy Pimblett hype train leading up to the spectacular UFC London event but after the fight, Dana admits he was proved wrong. Paddy The Baddy took on Kazula Vargas in the main card and pulled off a stunning submission victory in the first round.
The arena was absolute thumping as Pimblett went crazy after his ecstatic win. Paddy also jumped the cage and ran to the UFC President to have a word. In the press conference of UFC Fight Night 204, White spoke on Pimblett’s amazing performance. “This week, I was getting tired of hearing, ‘wait till you see his walkout,’ and this and that,” said Dana talking to the media after the fight.
Leading up to the fight, fans of Paddy from the UK were hyping up Paddy’s walkout and how electrifying it usually is. However, White was not really concerned about that unless the fighter put on a show inside the octagon. The boss was then mind blown seeing the response of the O2 Arena for Baddy’s walkout.
“This kid is real” Dana White mind blown by Paddy Pimblett’s performance in the O2 Arena
“I was like, ‘I need to see him fight, he needs to win.’ But he did and he did it spectacularly. And when he was in trouble, he came back and turned the fight around and won,” said White in the post-fight press conference. Dana also revealed some interesting statistics of how well-received Paddy is, around the world.
“I’ll give you a good example. On my Instagram, I posted the face-offs. The Aspinall-Alexander Volkov fight did 120,000 views and Paddy’s faceoff did 1.3 million. All the talk about his walk-in and all this sh*t…this kid is real. He’s got a ton of hype behind him and he showed everyone he’s the real deal,” ended Dana.
Paddy has now secured two, first-round finishes in the UFC. The fighter is only 2-0 in the new promotion and is already one of the biggest stars. “The Baddy” is building himself an extraordinary fanbase and has some serious comparisons with Conor McGregor.
