“His distance game”- Henry Cejudo reveals how he would coach Jorge Masvidal to better deal with wrestling

Henry Cejudo offers advice to Jorge Masvidal

Elite wrestler, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo has some wrestling tips for welterweight superstar Jorge Masvidal after his devastating defeat at UFC 272.

Jorge Masvidal had a very disappointing weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Gamebred” was overcome by his intense rival Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 272. The ATT fighter could not stop the dominance of Covington on the ground and Henry Cejudo has some free advice for the veteran.

Masvidal himself admitted that his wrestling was “flat” and he should have done better in that aspect of fighting against his foe. Cejudo took to his show, Triple C & Schmo, to talk about the things Masvidal could do to improve his game. “You have to make him a more technical fighter. Sometimes he gets into these flurries. He’s too smart to be letting people into his fight zone,” said Cejudo talking to the Schmo about “Gamebred” Masvidal.

“If I was to help him out, it would be his distance game. Keeping him at borders. Never allow anyone to get into that uppercut or hook range and things of that nature,” said Henry. “Wrestling and MMA wrestling it is different. There are things you can slip out of and things you can defend. He should not get into those scrambles as he did with Colby.”

Masvidal lost the fight to Covington via unanimous decision. Jorge also had his moments when he dropped Colby with some great strikes but couldn’t capitalize further on those moments. Henry is however here to help Jorge out with those situations. Cejudo has transitioned into a coach in recent times and has taken the likes of Jon Jones, Deiveson Figueiredo, Zhang Weili, and Cris Cyborg, under this wing.

“I think I would help out “Gamebred” a lot. I like ‘Gamebred’ even though we stopped talking due to our management firms…but my door will always be open for ‘Gamebred’ if he decides to rejuvenate his career. I believe I can help him tremendously,” said Cejudo.
