Since the beginning of 2019, Yanez has held an undefeated record and looks to enter the Top 10 rankings with a win over perennial contender Rob Font at UFC 287. He has won four Performance of the Night bonus since entering the UFC, and his latest one in Adrian Yanez vs Tony Kelley fight remains the most memorable one.

Tony Kelley drew the ire of fans after his disgusting comments about stereotyping Brazilian fighters during a fight between Andrea Lee and Viviane Araujo. He said, “That’s what they’re going to do, they’re dirty f****** Brazilians, they’re going to f****** cheat like that.” Kelley was referring to alleged eye pokes in the fight between the Flyweight women. Once the UFC booked Yanez vs Kelley fight, fans immediately turned their support to Yanez.

The fight had a massive build-up, with even Welterweight contender Gilbert Burns supporting Adrian Yanez and saying he would send bonus cash if Yanez could finish Kelley in their fight. Kelley even called Yanez a “wish version of Jorge Masvidal.” Once, the fight began pressuring Kelley with his strikes and kicks. He landed 35/67 significant strikes in less than 4 minutes of fight time. Kelley remained less active but landed some good shots, but it was not enough to faze the Texas native.

With less than two minutes to go in the first round, Yanez wobbled Kelley with strikes. Tony Kelley tried his best to cover up; however, Yanez clipped him again and knocked him down. He then proceeded to land multiple strikes on his downed opponent before the referee stopped the bout. After that, he showed off his middle fingers, claiming revenge for the Brazilian fighters worldwide. After the fight, Kelley got cut from the UFC.

Adrian Yanez fought Tony Kelley in his home state of Texas, which made the fight a special occasion for the Texas native. His father being a Golden Gloves winner, Yanez took the combat sports path in his life. Based on Yanez’s reaction, fight fans could see the raw emotions coming out from Yanez. He talked about defeating Kelley in his post-fight interview after the event and reacted to Kelley getting cut.

He said, “It’s an awesome moment for me. Man, that was a lot of emotion. That was a lot of raw emotion, of me just wanting to f*** that guy up, man. I don’t like that guy. I genuinely don’t like that guy, man. Not even just because of the comments he said, the but stuff leading up, and I heard a lot of stuff about him. It’s a different thing whenever I’m going through the hallways, and the UFC staff is telling me to f*** him up.”

The story’s moral remains simple; do not make sensitive comments about a group of people or a nationality. Tony Kelley found that the hard way when Yanez took him out in less than five minutes and moments later, he got cut from the UFC. Yanez will compete at UFC 287 against Rob Font and will look to enter the top 10 rankings with a win.
