“I can beat him easy”- Islam Makhachev certain he can beat both Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, trains his aim at 170 title
Islam Makhachev ,Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal
Islam Makhachev, currently on a 10 fight win streak tear in the lightweight division, was in talks to face Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272 headlined by Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. While that fight fell through, fans eagerly await Islam Makhachev vs Beniel Dariush, and whoever emerges the victor will probably fight for the title next.
During a recent interview with Brett Okamoto, Islam opened up about his plans for his future in the UFC. The first thing Islam wants to do is win the lightweight belt and he hopes to do it in spectacular fashion, but of course, he will have to get past his next opponent, Beniel Dariush.
Islam hopes that Charles Oliveira will be victorious in his bout against Justin Gaethje and retain the belt, as that would lead to Islam vs Charles for the lightweight belt. The bout will be similar to Khabib vs Tony, which never came to pass, and has the makings to be the biggest fight in the lightweight division’s history. Islam continued, “I’m gonna take this (lightweight) belt, defense like three, five times and I’m gonna come to welterweight division.” Somehow Islam made winning the lightweight belt, defending it 5 times, and going up to welterweight to take that belt, sound inevitable.

Islam Makhachev is unimpressed by Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal
It didn’t seem like the welterweights at UFC 272 managed to impress Islam. Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal are top fighters at the welterweight division but Islam is unfazed and believes that he could take both Colby and Jorge on the same night. It seems like the front row seat Islam had for UFC 272 helped his confidence quite a bit.
In his opinion Colby has sloppy striking, depending mainly on his wrestling for fights and Islam believes he’s the better wrestler, giving him the edge. Masvidal, according to him, is very old and is still in the fight game for some high-paying fights after which he will retire. When asked about the current welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, Islam said that Usman will lose motivation after Canelo Alvarez’s boxing fight, which will lead to Usman’s retirement, after which he will fight for, and gain the belt.
