Colby Covington-Jorge Masvidal

Colby Covington is all in to shed all the sides of Jorge Masvidal’s stories, which also includes the first and foremost reason for their friendship turning into rivalry, money. In an interview done a few days ago, Masvidal stated that Covington never paid a single penny for the years the latter stayed in the former’s house as well as never paid for Masvidal’s striking coach, Paulino Hernandez who started tutoring Covington to elevate his striking skills.

Now both the fighters are booked for this weekend to settle a lot of heavy scores as they face each other at UFC 272. Covington and Masvidal are leading the first non-title fight in almost six years in UFC history that doesn’t have the last name of either of the two biggest UFC megastars, Conor McGregor or Nate Diaz in it. This fight is surely a bunch of a couple of treats, one for the fight game as well as one for the fight business.

“I was paying my 5% to Dan [Lambert, founder and owner of American Top Team, Covington’s former training gym], I always paid Paulino [Hernandez, Masvidal’s personal striking coach once worked for Covington as well] on the side,” says Covington “They started misreporting they said for one fight I made a certain amount which is $380,000. I’ll just tell you the exact number which I shouldn’t go into that I didn’t make that amount, you can ask Dan Lambert I made $200,000 for that fight. That’s the truth.”

Covington then started targeting the people who misreported his pay on the internet and came back to Masvidal. He [Masvidal] took their [the media’s] word for it, so it’s just so funny because he takes these people’s words he doesn’t want to take my word. I’m telling him ‘yo this is what I made’ I could tell you, that’s what is cleared in my bank account that’s why Dan Lambert hasn’t said one thing that I stick to anybody, and it was never over money. Jorge has nothing else, he’s still grasping at the straws, he has nothing else to stay,” concludes Covington.
