“I don’t wanna starve”- Kayla Harrison shuts down rumors of going down to 135lbs

Kayla Harrison
Kayla Harrison recently re-signed a contract with PFL. She fights in the women’s lightweight division and is one of the most promising and rising prospects in the MMA world.
In October 2021, Kayla defeated Taylor to win her second lightweight tournament in the PFL. Currently, the fighter has a perfect record of 12-0 inside the cage. But, that’s not enough to achieve goat status like her former teammate Amanda Nunes.
Similar to Amanda, Harrison has to move up or go down a weight class to prove her dominance as a pound-for-pound best fighter. When her contract with PFL ended she made statements about fighting in different weight classes. Her beef with Julianna Pena was another period where she explored the idea of fighting in lower-weight classes.
Kayla Harrison on the rumors about moving to bantamweight divison

Recently, the American top team’s fighter had a brief chat with Ariel Helwani while giving an interview in his The MMA hour show. Harrison talked about his training routine at ATT, she also shared her thoughts on the Colby vs Jorge fight. However, another interesting thing she shed light on was the rumors about her fighting in the bantamweight division.
While talking about the same to Ariel Helwani, Kayla said:
“No, don’t be mean…I said it as a joke…I don’t want to do that. Again, I want to be a role model. I want to teach young fighters that it’s not about how much you weigh but about how big your heart is. If you wanna win you can beat in whatever weight class…I don’t wanna starve and deplete my body of nutrients and dehydration and then step in a cage 24 hours later and get punched in the head. I don’t want to do that, I don’t want to teach that’s okay to do.“
Kayla previously said that she was ready to fight at 135 pounds only if something exciting came up. But, now it seems like she has no interest in doing so. She feels that it is important to be a good role model but she doesn’t want to do that by hurting her body. However, the Olympic gold medalist is ready to fight at 145 pounds.
