“I hid it from him”- Ali Abdelaziz reveals how he handled the news of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s induction to the UFC Hall of Fame

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s legacy was cemented by the UFC in immortality when the former Russian mixed-martial artist became the first inductee for the UFC Hall of Fame of class 2022 under the modern era wing. Nurmagomedov, who retired from the sport of MMA in October 2020 after his last fight due to the sad demise of his father, the late great Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, went on to become a full-time promoter and brought the promotion of Eagle FC in November 2020.
Nurmagomedov worked on the promotion within his home country of Russia for the first year of 2021 and then went on to introduce his roster of fighters through the promotion on American soil this year onwards in January 2022, when EFC 44, headlined by kickboxing legend Tyrone Spong and MMA legend Sergei Kharitonov was hosted by the city of Miami, Florida, the USA. Now, the second event for the live American audience, EFC 46, will take place on March 11, 2022, in the same state.

In an interview with MMA Junkie Correspondent Danny Segura as part of pre-event media scrum of EFC 46, Ali Abdelaziz, founder of Dominance MMA management agency and former manager of Khabib Nurmagomedov, talks about receiving the information of “The Eagle’s” induction into the Hall of Fame and the struggles of hiding it from Khabib for about two weeks.
“The UFC told me [about Khabib’s induction] 2 weeks ago and I hid it from him and I had to hide it from the whole team,“ says Abdelaziz “It was so hard because the fight happened, he wanted to go home I was like ‘no, no, stay’ he’s like ‘why do you need me to stay’ and I was like you just need to stay because I know they’re going to announce it was a great moment…
One of the most proud moments of my career“ continues Abdelaziz “To see an amazing you know, you see guys like Anderson Silva not even inducted into Hall Of Fame yet and you see someone like Khabib turn around like that so fast and get inducted, it was surreal, it was surreal that he gets inducted. If anybody deserved it, it was him,” concludes Abdelaziz.
