Robert Whittaker remembers how it felt getting a heavy shot from Israel Adesanya in the first round of their rematch.
Whittaker and Adesanya went against each other at UFC 271 with the middleweight title on the line. It was the second time the duo fought each other and the hype around it was humongous.
After five rounds of back and forth, Izzy won the fight via unanimous decision and defended his title for the fourth time.

Whittaker recently joined podcast hosts, Kacper Rosolowski and Denis Shkuratov of the ‘Submission Radio‘. During the interview, the fighter discussed his fight with Adesanya at UFC 271 and how he has been recovering from the loss.
While talking about the fight, Whittaker shed light on the shot that he took from Adesanya in the first round that dropped him. The 31-year old Aussie revealed that before the shot he got hit by a kick from Izzy and his vision got compromised for a few seconds.
Izzy took this opportunity and landed a heavy shot which Whittaker completely missed and got hit directly. But according to Whittaker, the hit wasn’t that powerful and even if he was down he didn’t lose his senses. But overall it was a bad position as Izzy is very dominant and it’s not wise to drop like that against him.
“One of those kicks skimmed my eye, so I had double vision in my right eye. So yeah, when he was lining me up in that southpaw stance to fire down the pipe, I thought he missed. But he did not miss…. honestly, it wasn’t too bad of a shot. It’s like one of those ones that just put you on your bum but you are still there the whole time..but it’s dangerous because he’s a great fighter,” said Whittaker.
After the fight, Whittaker suggested that he is ready to run it back again with Izzy and will be the fighter to dethrone him. But now the trilogy fight is not going to take place anytime soon. Fight fans are also very excited to see these two fight again.
