Contrary to popular opinion, Renato Moicano, the fighter who won the hearts of MMA fans for his performance at UFC 272, believes the referee Marc Goddard did a very good job at officiating his fight.
UFC 272 co-main event was a vicious bout. Former UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos was challenged by Renato Moicano. Renato took on the fight on short notice of just five days and shocked the entire world. A fight that should have probably lasted for less than five rounds, went the distance and Moicano showed that he is a true warrior.
Fans and analysts were absolutely outraged by the doctor and referee for that fight who decided to let a barely-conscious Moicano continue fighting dos Anjos for the entire five rounds. In his recent interview with TMZ Sports, Moicano stands up for Marc Goddard and thanked him for letting him go the distance.
“It was a great job,” Renato Moicano praises Marc Goddard for his work at UFC 272
“I’m really thankful he didn’t stop the fight because otherwise, I would not know what I am made of,” said Moicano in the interview with TMZ Sports. “I always try to go forward, I always try to fight back, and for me, the referee did his job, and it was a great job.”
Moicano lost the fight via unanimous decision and was outclassed by RDA on the ground. Despite the beating he took and the injuries he sustained, Moicano is most upset about not living up to his ground game. “He took me down. I got mad about everything was that he dominated me on the ground, I’m mad about that. I’m going to the gym and work on my jiu-jitsu, work on my wrestling. I knew I didn’t have the time for training but I still would take the fight.”
Renato now has a record of 16-5-1 and was coming off a submission win against Alexander Hernandez at UFC 271. What did you think about Marc Goddard’s decision to let Renato fight?
