“Five of the best welterweights on the planet,” Irish prospect Ian Garry reveals his training partners ahead of UFC 273
Sanford MMA- Ian Garry
UFC Welterweight Ian Garry has already ignited the flame with his debut back in November 2021 at UFC 268 in Madison Square Garden, but he has a long way to prove how legit he is, and it seems like for the names he has been sparring with, Garry might shut his doubters sooner than expected. A former Cage Warriors champion, Garry is seen as the next big thing out of Ireland after the biggest name the MMA game has ever heard, Conor McGregor.
Garry is an undefeated prospect and made his aforementioned UFC debut quite spectacular when he defeated Jordan Williams via first-round knockout in the very last second before the bell. His upcoming fight is taking place in the prelims of UFC 273 against 5-1 record holder Darrian Weeks. UFC 273 is headlined by a featherweight title clash between the reigning defending champion Alexander Volkanovski and a legend in Chan Sung Jung.
Ian Garry speaks highly of the ‘best welterweights on this planet’
In an interview with Sherdog.com, Garry talks about his experience training at Sanford MMA ahead of his aforementioned UFC 273 clash. UFC 273 takes place on April 9, 2022, at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, the USA.
“The biggest difference since I have been here,” says and continues Garry “I’ve shared training sessions, on like one-on-one either whether it be sparring or doing pad work or doing technical strike and I’ve done it with Gilbert [Burns], I’ve done it with Vicente Luque, I’ve done it with Kamaru Usman, I’ve done with Logan Storley… I’ve done it with Jason Jackson… just those guys enough I don’t need to name anyone else, you’re talking about literally five of the best welterweights on this planet.”
What do you make of Ian Garry’s point in fighting the biggest names in all of MMA’s welterweight division helping him in elevating his game? Where do you see Garry peaking whilst he unleashes his potential from time to time, do you see him becoming the second UFC champion coming out of Ireland after UFC megastar Conor McGregor? Who do you think will win between Garry and his upcoming opponent Darrian Weeks at UFC 273?
