Logan Paul- Khamzat Chimaev

When UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev leaves the UFC, he will be having plenty of options to fight exhibition matches with huge sums of money, and internet sensation Logan Paul might be in the line waiting for him. Chimaev, who’s 10-0 and 4-0 in the UFC, is fighting this weekend against #2 ranked welterweight and former title challenger Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 taking place in VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chimaev is on a rapid rise to stardom since his first two fights in the UFC, which he won within a span of just 10 days, finishing both of them. In his third fight, Chimaev knocks out a much experienced UFC fighter in Gerald Meerschaert in just 17 seconds of the very first round, this was when Chimaev proved that he belongs in the biggest MMA promotion in the world. In his return to the Octagon after a year layoff due to Covid, Chimaev submits then #11 ranked Li Jingliang in the very first round in a fashionable manner.

In an interview at MMA Fighting’s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, Logan Paul talks about his professional wrestling match at Wrestlemania, his future as an exhibition boxer, his brother Jake Paul and much more. Paul then also stumbles upon Chimaev’s name, in whose gym Paul trained back in 2019. Chimaev trains at the All-Stars Gym in Sweden. The gym is known for hosting fighters such as former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson and now former welterweight title challenger Darren Till.

“I just showed up at the gym and sparred a couple of their guys,” Paul said. They didn’t let me spar Khamzat. Yeah, no, he’s a f****** dog. I’m not doing MMA with him. I’d box him for sure. I’d be more than happy to box him, but that’s the problem, all these UFC guys are locked up. They’re locked up. So it’s hard to get a fight with any of them.” [h/t MMA Fighting]

What do you make of Paul describing Chimaev’s aura in the latter’s home gym of All-Stars? What do you think is next for Paul, should he continue as a reel for WWE or keep exploring other options? What do you think is next for Chimaev if he defeats his UFC 273 opponent Gilbert Burns? As per UFC President Dana White, if Chimaev defeats Burns, he will be fighting #1 ranked welterweight Colby Covington.
