Islam Makhachev is currently on a rise and is considered one of the biggest contenders for the UFC lightweight title. Makhachev made his UFC debut back in 2015 and has been on a ten win undefeated streak. The 30-year-old recently beat Bobby Green at UFC Vegas 49 via TKO. After the win, Makhachev claimed that he deserves to fight for the title as nobody else is willing to take him on.

Makhachev is a close friend of former UFC champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov who is also his coach. After Makhachev’s win over Green, there were many that thought he deserved the title shot. But the UFC is still not satisfied with Makhachev’s record. Even president Dana White ruled out the chance of the fighter getting a title shot anytime soon.

The only debate about Makhachev not getting the title shot can be the list of opponents he has faced as most of them were unranked.

” I never liked nerds.”

It seems like Makhachev has his eyes fixed on the upcoming much anticipated lightweight contest between Oliveira and Gaethje. Both the fighters are going to take on each other at UFC 274 on May 7, 2022. The Pay-per-view event will take place inside the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

For Gaethje, it’s his second chance to get his hands on the title after losing once against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254. On the other hand, Oliveira will defend his title for the second time after winning it at UFC UFC 262. The hype around the fight is massive and fight fans are excited to know how this fight will turn out and what the future of the lightweight division holds.
