“It possibly changed my life forever”- Molly McCann reflects upon the career-defining win at UFC London
Molly McCann
Molly McCann took on Luana Carolina, at the main card of UFC London. She became the first Englishwomen to compete on the main card of a UFC event in London. Molly had the support of the home crowd and she sure was enjoying herself out there. She started fighting in a violent manner, and after dominating Luana for two rounds, she landed a perfect spinning elbow to knock the soul out of her body.
It was a great night for local heroes, but Molly’s knockout was out of the world. Everybody lost their mind, and even Dana White claimed that it was the best female knockout he’s ever seen. Molly recently appeared in an interview with Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, and she talked about this finish in great detail.
She said, “It’s something that when you chase a submission or you chase a finish, they don’t come. When you’re loose and you’re sharp, they come. And when I’m not tense. I’ve only knocked one person down I think in the UFC and that was Ariane Lipski, but when I done that it was like a sharp backhand and I didn’t load up. That elbow, I just looked to the side and I just gave a glance up and I thought, ‘Is it on? Is it on,’ just keep going, look, go, boom. There was no pause or tense it was just go.”
“There was no pause or tense it was just go”- Molly McCann reveals the secret behind her spectacular knockout
Molly sees herself as a valid contender for the ‘knockout of the year’ trophy. Like Dana said, ‘Women don’t knock other women out like this.’ It was a career-defining win for her, and a knockout like that certainly placed her among the elites of her division. The women’s flyweight division is ruled by Valentina Shevchenko, and Molly aims at becoming a champion by defeating every top-ranked contender thrown in her way.
Talking about her future, she said, “It’s about damn time. I’ve been committed to the game. I feel as if MMA, that fight, that night gave me back everything that I’ve put into it and in one second it possibly changed my life forever.”
