“It’s the thought that counts,” Israel Adesanya brutally trolls Jon Jones in A Valentine’s Day post

Jon Jones-Israel Adesanya

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya is right off nailing the toughest title defence when he fought preceding middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in a rematch. But when this amazing fighter turns into a notorious troll, Adesanya has more names to target than he has to compete. Nevertheless, “Stylebender” never ceases to catch the attention MMA community.

Adesanya is most likely to fight against fellow contender Jared Cannonier in his next title defence. Cannonier came off a victory at UFC 271 when he finished Derek Brunson via second-round TKO. Adesanya is not looking for super fights as of now, but a fight often fantasized is the one with former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who’s now moving up to heavyweight. But Jones and Adesanya have often gone through a lot of back and forth against each other on Twitter and talked trash about each other through various interviewing platforms as well.

In a recent dig, Adesanya took a page out of Jones’ history in domestic violence which dates back to September of 2021 when Jones was arrested for domestic violence charges against his wife and also for vandalising law enforcement property. Adesanya posted an image that said “Jon Jones wrapping a Valentine’s Day gift for his fiance” and then had a picture of a black fighter wrapping his hands to wear boxing/MMA gloves. In the caption, Adesanya wrote “Happy Valentine’s Day [heart emojis] It’s the thought that counts xo”

Jones was arrested the same night he was honoured with UFC Hall of Fame for his fight against Alexander Gustafsson back in 2013. What do you make of Adesanya taking an out of the blue dig on Jones because the two haven’t traded fighting words since a very long time? Also, who do you think would’ve won in a fantasy match between Jones and Adesanya? Who do you think their upcoming opponents are respectively?
