“We didn’t wait for the moment,” Jacare Souza looks back with regret as he failed to capitalize on a title fight

Jacare Souza the legendary MMA veteran looks back on his successful career but there is one thing that bothers him to date. In his 18 year MMA career, Ronaldo Souza never fought for a title shot in the UFC.
Though Jacare Souza was a Strikeforce champion in the middleweight division, the Brazilian still is disturbed by the fact that he never waited for a title shot in the UFC. Jacare fought in the UFC from the year 2013 to 2021. He called for retirement following his four consecutive defeats in the middleweight division. There was a point in his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship when he was in line for the title shot but the Brazilian and his team ended up picking fights instead of being patient for the title fight.
After his retirement, Jacare sat down for an interview with Ag Fight. In the interview, he looks back at the wonderful moments in his career and also the bad decisions he had made. Ronaldo had a professional record of 26-10-0 with one ‘No Contes’ bout. Souza mainly retired because he did not have the same motivation and drive to continue performing inside the octagon.

In the interview, Jacare said, “I had a good run. I was very well paid in the UFC. I had great fights. I spent seven years at the top of the middleweight division. I didn’t have a chance to fight for the title, but I did what I could. Now it is time to rest my body and mind.”
“We weren’t smart enough to wait for our moment,” Jacare explained. ”I’m sure of that. We didn’t wait for the moment. The moment was going to come, but we didn’t wait for it. We put in the work. We got where we needed to, we did what we had to do, but we couldn’t wait for it.” He has some amazing wins against Chris Weidman, Derek Brunson, Vitor Belfort, and many other elite fighters.
