Joe Rogan always praised Khabib Nurmagomedov for his humble nature and dominant fighting style. Khabib ranks among the top five greatest fighters for most fight fans and analysts. Rogan recently discussed Khabib’s dominance as a fighter on his podcast.
Joe Rogan argued that the 145lbs, 155lbs, and 170lbs weight classes are the most competitive weight classes in the sport of MMA. He commended Khabib Nurmagomedov for defeating and dominating everyone else in the Lightweight division. “And he’s the most dominant guy ever in the most competitive weight class,” Joe Rogan said.
Rogan continued, “When he wrestles guys, when he grabs them, you can see the look in their face like, oh my god this is different.” Khabib truly dominated the competition and retired with the title defense over Justin Gaethje in 2020. Khabib Nurmagomedov was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
The Dagestani retired from professional MMA fighting with an undefeated record of 29 wins and zero losses. He had notable victories over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, and Rafael dos Anjos. Very few fighters in MMA retired with an undefeated record. Khabib joined Rickson Gracie in the prestigious list of fighters to retire with an undefeated record.
Khabib Nurmagomedov on Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski

Islam Makhachev and Khabib have a close bond. They trained together in the past, and Khabib coached Makhachev after his retirement. Khabib was instrumental in helping Makhachev win the UFC Lightweight title against Charles Oliveira. Before facing featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284, Khabib Nurmagomedov reportedly had serious concerns about Islam Makhachev, according to Khabib’s old coach Javier Mendez.
Last year, Nurmagomedov announced his decision to retire from coaching. He wanted to spend more time with his family in Dagestan. Khabib is a family man who talked about wanting to keep his family away from media attention. Despite this, Khabib Nurmagomedov closely monitored Makhachev in the days leading up to his fight against Volkanovski. Islam Makhachev defeated Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision in Australia.
Since losing that fight, Volkanovski has pushed for a rematch, and Dana White recently gave it some credence. Both fighters must defend the title in their respective divisions before a rematch can happen. “Yair against Volkanovski, Islam against someone, and then there will be the rematch,” Dana remarked.
