“Jon Jones is champion of Twitter” – Francis Ngannou snubs Jon Jones again, hails Jones’ Twitter work

Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones

Francis Ngannou was not having any of Jon Jones’ questions after his impressive victory over his former teammate and interim champion Ciryl Gane. Ngannou shuts down Jones and didn’t give the former LHW any spotlight.

Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones are hinting to fight for the past two years. But after his win over Stipe Miocic, when Dana White announced that if Jones wants to have this fight he can get it, Ngannou was focusing on Jones and was ready to fight the greatest fighter of all time. But the fight never materialized and Ngannou was offered to fight Derrick Lewis in Houston on relatively short notice. Ngannou was not happy with this whole situation and he blamed Jones for not wanting to fight him.

Ngannou is moving on from Jones and said in the pre-fight press conference of UFC 270 that he is not interested in that fight anymore. Now, after his victory over Gane when asked for a reaction to Jones’s tweet on the main event, Ngannou was not pleased to give any opportunity to Jones and was rather happy in enjoying his own success. Ngannou mocked Jones and said,

Francis Ngannou will probably fight Jon Jones next

Ngannou may not like the idea of Jon Jones just after his victory but this fight is inevitable. Ngannou wants to get big cheques from the UFC and that can only happen if he is involved in fights of higher magnitude. A fight with the greatest LHW and arguably the greatest martial artists to ever fight in the UFC would be a massive hit at the box office. So, even if Ngannou does not show interest in Jon Jones now if would have very fewer options to get a bigger fight than that.

Ngannou’s next opponent also depends upon his contract situation. Ngannou has shown interest in doing a boxing fight with Tyson Fury, that fight would be bigger than a Jones fight but how realistic would that be. Is Ngannou comfortable to let go of the UFC heavyweight championship for that one big payday? Ngannou’s chances against Tyson Fury, the most elusive boxer of all time, is very thin and after losing to Fury he may not get any bigger fights as in boxing losses are considered as criminal activity.

In the UFC Ngannou’s next opponent if not Jones would be Derrick Lewis. Lewis has a victory over Ngannou and is scheduled to fight fan favorite Tai Tuivasa. Lewis is most likely to win his next fight and if he does so he may find himself across his former foe in Ngannou. Ngannou vs Lewis would be a big fight but considering how the fight played out the first time it may not be bigger than a fight with Jones. So Ngannou’s options at HW are very limited and if he is going for big fights Jones is probably next.
