Jorge Masvidal had a rough childhood and getting into street fights was a normal day for the teenager. However, all those hardships definitely helped him to push himself to become a UFC legend. 

Way before getting into UFC, Masvidal was famous for fighting in Miami backyard street fights. These fights were brutal with no gloves with the general public surrounding two men fighting each other. One of the videos featured Jorge Masvidal fighting a man named Ray and defeating him which had over millions of views on YouTube.

While talking about the fight, Gamebred revealed that ahead of the fight his opponent took on another fighter and knocked him out in 20 seconds. According to the fighter, hus friend panicked and warned him about Ray’s right hand.

He said: “They told me that the guy that you’re gonna fight wants to fight another guy before you and I’m thinking this guy incredibly stupid or f****. That fight literally takes about 20 seconds he knocks the guy the f**** out and one of the guys that was with me, he comes running and like oh my god, he’s like be careful about the right hand. He’s just like nervous and in fear and I’m like Holy smokes.” However, this didn’t faze Masvidal at all who went in there and landed Ray with a serious of punches and kicks. 

“And I said okay I will watch out for his right hand and then I get in and the rest is history,” said Masvidal.  Ray was bigger than Masvidal but failed to do anything in the fight and ultimately lost. The video went viral and made Masvidal a well reputed street fighter.

Jorge Masvdial’s relationship with Kimbo Slice

All the street fights that were taking place at that time were hosted by the legendary,  Kevin Ferguson, also known as Kimbo Slice. Kimbo was the man behind the bare-knuckle boxing and street fighting circuit across the country. Jorge Masvidal got his fame as a street fighter after featuring in fights hosted by Kimbo Slice and during that time he got close with Kimbo. 

“Me and Kimbo, rest in peace, we used to train at the same gym. He’d already seen me working out and we built up a little bit of a connection after talking a couple of times. That’s when he asked if I’d like to fight in his backyard. The rest is history,” Masvidal told BBC.

Masvidal always had respect for Slice who gave the initial opportunity which ultimately lead to his UFC days. After coming to UFC, Masvidal already had the nickname of ‘Steet Jesus’ and throughout our his career he made sure to justify it.
