Amanda Nunes vs Julianna Peña

Julianna Peña achieved what everyone believed was unthinkable when she submitted Amanda Nunes to claim the woman’s bantamweight title in the UFC 269 co-main event. Peña in her post-fight interview with Joe Rogan says, “I’m not surprised motherf***rssss, I told you. Don’t ever doubt me again.”

This fight even made history with Peña breaking into the Top-5 betting upsets record after her triumph over Nunes with the odds against her at +650. Round 1 was scored to be won by Nunes 10-9 after she chops Peña to the mat with a low kick and then drops her later into the mat with a right jab.

Round 2 was where one of the biggest upsets in the UFC was caused with Peña coming out guns blazing. She kept up with her left ultimately leading to Nunes running out of steam. Peña then drops her, takes the back, gets the choke, and Nunes taps immediately.

After a difficult first round, Nunes looked to have the advantage over the ‘Venezuelan Vixen’. However, Peña got into a brawl with the Brazilian determined to take her down and after making Nunes gas out she sealed the win with a rear-naked choke.

The stadium blew up with fans and fighters alike wonderstruck by what they had just witnessed. Twitter was flooded with pro fighters reacting to that incredible upset by Peña.

With this performance, Peña becomes the fifth bantamweight champion in UFC history.

A rematch looks to be the next step for Peña and Nunes but for now, the Venezuelan can dwell in the glory of her incredible win.
