Justin Gaethje is one of the biggest lightweight MMA fighters in the world and has proven it every time he has stepped into the octagon. Gaethje is an animal and is considered one of the most violent fighters on the UFC roster. The fighter made his UFC debut in 2017 and immediately caught the attention of fans for his brutal way of fighting. He is been in numerous wars and his fights with Tony Ferguson, Michael Chandler, and Michael Johnson are some of his best ones.
Gaethje is a two-time UFC lightweight contender but has failed to take the belt on both occasions. Despite his losses, the fighter is still a fan favorite for his fighting style. According to Gaethje, to reach where he is now, he had to work very hard and needed help from many people. One of them is his identical twin and biggest supporter, Marcus Gaethje. The brothers grew up in Arizona and in their early teen days used to play football together. Before getting into MMA, Gaethje wanted to try his luck in the NFL and was playing Quarterback. Similarly, his brother was a middle linebacker.
In an interview with TMZ, Marcus mentioned that due to his size, Justin didn’t have any chance in the NFL but found success in wrestling and that’s how everything started. He said: “He met one of those wrestling coaches that was kinda in the fight game and he brought some UFC fighters to the wrestling [gym] and I think that’s when he made the decision that he wanted to at least try fighting.” Marcus supported Justin from the beginning and now everything is paying off as Gaethje remains one of the biggest superstars in UFC.
Marcus Gaethje doesn’t like the nervous atmosphere before Justin Gaethje’s fights
The nerves before the fight can really impact a lot of strong people, especially close family members. Marcus Gaethje has always been in Justin’s fights and has experienced that room multiple times and always feels the pressure.
According to Gaethje, he doesn’t like the environment at all as everybody is tensed up and there is a challenge inside the octagon however, Justin doesn’t feel any kind of pressure at all.
“You know, what I hate the most is that I get nervous and he doesn’t. Like before in the back of the room before we walk out, all of his coaches are a nervous wreck and he’s back there goofing around, having fun, punching us.”
The ‘Highlight’ is blessed to have such a brother. He has been there from day one and even now stays in his corner watching his fights. Marcus has revealed that he’s extremely proud of Justin because he achieved everything coming from a very small town.
