Justin Tafa has created history becoming the first fighter to cross weight limit
Justin Tafa, a UFC heavyweight division fighter made the wrong kind of history when the scales tipped against his favor and he found himself 2 lbs heavier than the required weight limit. At the weigh-in, Tafa stripped down with only a towel covering him as per the standard procedure. His weight came to be 257 lbs which are 2 lbs over the limit of 255 lbs.
He was expected to face the Australian MMA fighter, Harry Hunsucker at UFC fight night: Lewis vs Daukaus.
Hunsucker easily passed the weight test as he comfortably weighed way below the limit. The machine showed his weight to be 238.5 lbs, which is about two-stone lighter than Tafa. This comes as bit of a shock as Hunsucker is about two inches taller than Tafa.
Justin Tafa has thus become the only fighter to miss the card due to missing the required weight in the UFC heavyweight history. But these instances can be seen in other divisions as well. Take, for example, Sijara Eubanks came in at about 127.5 lbs for her match against Melissa Gatto in the flyweight division.
Then there is another fighter who has had the biggest miss of all. Macy Chiasson weighed in at about 147.5 lbs for her match against Raquel Pennington in the featherweight division.
Will Justin Tafa be able to participate in his match against Harry Hunsucker or will the fixture get cancelled
According to the official weigh-in rules, one can be 1 lb heavier than the weight limit. But Tafa is a pound heavier than the allowance too. This puts the judging committee in a quandary.
They have decided to go ahead with the match, but Tafa has to give 20% of his match earnings as a fine. The committee gets 10% and the opponent gets another 10%. Hunsucker will take a cut from Tafa in the preliminary bout.
This UFC fight night is headlined by the Heavyweights, Derrick Lewis, who stands at No.3, and Chris Daukaus, who stands at No.7. The fight will be amazing to watch!
