Kevin Holland vs Alex Oliveira

Kevin Holland shook things up in the UFC upon his arrival. Kevin became popular for running his mouth inside the octagon, and he was knocking out competition left and right. He was given the biggest fight of his career against Derek Brunson, but Brunson dominated him with his superior wrestling skills and Kevin had to go home with an L.

He then faced Marvin Vettori, and Vettori took the same approach to snatch away the unanimous decision victory. Bad luck followed Holland in his next fight as well. He got hit with an accidental head butt, and the fight was declared as no contest. Holland was having a hard time finding his place in the organization, and he decided to move down to welterweight.

Holland took on Alex Oliveira at the main card of UFC 272. Alex surprised Kevin in the first round of their contest, but he came back with a vicious hook that dropped his opponent. Kevin capitalized on the opportunity and stopped the fight with brutal ground and pound. Kevin finally got back in the win column, and he took the opportunity to call out Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Cowboy is yet to react to his call-out, but Holland is happy with his performance.

Holland appeared in an interview with Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, and they discussed his future in the welterweight division. Kevin is planning on fighting 5-6 times this year, and he believes he can’t make that cut to 170 every time he steps inside the octagon. “Everything is about timing,” Holland said. “I had fun at ‘85, still plan on having some more fun there, so I can’t complain. I have a pretty decent name at ‘85. I was ranked 14 going into this fight, at middleweight. … You’ve got some of these guys ranked ahead of me at middleweight on some losing skids.”

“If we’re just speaking here, just throwing out things, I feel like I could be ranked higher than those guys. And if we’re talking about 170, I would like to see where that goes. So no, wish that I did it sooner. I like where I’m sitting. I might be the only guy ranked at both weight classes, so it could be fun,” Kevin concluded.
