“I’m not ashamed to apologize to them,” Khabib Nurmagomedov shows remorse for his comments on the Afghanistan crisis
Khabib Nurmagomedov
Khabib Nurmagomedov recently responded to a reporter asking him about the crisis in Afghanistan and the response got a lot of backlashes. “The Eagle” has gone on record to apologize for his comments.
Recently, in a press conference for his new endorsement deal with Gorilla Energy, Khabib Nurmagomedov was asked about the current situation with the Taliban and Afghanistan. Khabib was infuriated about the question and gave an answer which came off as very offensive to the people affected in that region by this geopolitical movement. The reporter asked Nurmagomedov if he was shocked by what has happened in the Afghan and the Russian did not want to make a statement about the crisis at that moment and gave a very irritating response.
“I wouldn’t like to sit here during such a serious and unique deal for a Russian sport. We have never had such a serious deal neither in Russian football, not in hockey. Today we have such a deal, and I wouldn’t like to discuss this political moment that happens thousands of kilometers away,” Khabib said. A lot of people took offense to it and now the Dagestani has come out to apologize for his comments.
Khabib Nurmagomedov hopes the Afghanis will forgive him
In a recent interview, “My reaction was because I didn’t want to comment on politics. The reactions were quite intense from my Afghan fans,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “Of course the reaction I received was stormy from my Afghan fans. I looked again at my answer… when I said it was thousands of kilometers away and didn’t concern me or the person who asked me.“
“I have a lot of friends, close people from Afghanistan. In answering that question, I think I was misunderstood, I meant that I do not want to comment on the political situation. I hope they will forgive me if I offended them… I’m not ashamed to apologize to them, because anyone can make a mistake,” he continued.
“When I said what I said, I just didn’t want to comment on politics. heir people are long-suffering. What was happening and is happening there, many have seen in their lifetime. It’s painful for them, I worry. I want to wish them all the best.”
