Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian mixed martial artist now turned coach/ promoter who used to compete in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He was undefeated in his MMA career and has won all 27 of his fights.
Nurmagomedov was born on September 20, 1988, in the village of Sildi, Dagestan ASSR, Soviet Union. His father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was a wrestler for the Soviet Union and later became a coach for Khabib and his brother.
He started wrestling at the age of six and he won two world championships as an amateur wrestler before turning professional at the age of 21.
Nurmagomedov’s first fight was against Vusal Bayramov on November 10, 2008 and he won by unanimous decision.
Abdulmanap who died recently due to Covid-related complications, had been accused of forcing Khabib to wrestle from an early age and beating him when he refused. Khabib has denied these allegations but admitted that he had been beaten by his father as punishment for not wrestling seriously enough.
He infact attributes his success to his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who has been a major influence in his life.
“He just showed always. If I was good, he show good. If I was bad, he show bad. He never give up on me,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said in an interview with RT Sport.

Khabib has several times spoken about the impact his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has had on his success as a mixed martial artist. The undefeated Russian fighter has on several occasions explained how it was always his father’s dream for him to become a world champion.
In a recent interview at Miftaah Institute Nurmagomedov, that revealed how his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov always led by example. The undefeated fighter said, “Father was always like this you know always he take care of me.Like he teach me, he teach me to become not only like a good fighter. Just become like just good person you know and he never say oh you have to do this, you have to do this. He just show always it was a very good example for me you know.”
Khabib also touched upon the role religion has played in his life and how it helps him.
