Last Saturday the fight world saw a war inside the octagon on UFC 273. Apart from the main and co-main event, Khamzat Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns had the biggest hype. According to Dana White, Burns vs Chimaev had a hype better than the title fights.

Coming to the fight Khamzat was on a 3-fight winning streak in the promotion. Burns on the other hand, was also fresh off a win against Stephen Wonderboy Thompson. But, what’s interesting was almost every fighter in the top 10 of the welterweights ranking then denied fighting Khamzat. However, Burns decided to take a ride on Chimaev’s hype train.

On Saturday night, Khamzat and Burns went to war and the judges scored the fight in favour of Khamzat unanimously. This helped Khamzat to jump 7 steps in the new UFC rankings and it made him the third ranked fighter in the welterweight division.

It is obvious that Burns took the Khamzat fight as a gamble; he had nothing to gain but everything to lose in that fight. Losing to Khamzat has certainly put him in a difficult situation right now. His future in the UFC for a title run is uncertain.

Nevertheless, a new development occurred after the UFC 273 fight between the two. Burns took to Twitter to call out Chimaev for a five round rematch. Burns certainly felt that giving a fight to Khamzat when everyone in the roster refused to fight him was a favour. So, he deserves a rematch of the same.

Burns wrote: “If call the cops don’t show up you know who to call @khamzatchimaev 5 rounds“

Replying to which Khamzat said: “In 5 rounds I will take your soul boy. See you soon”.

Seems like Khamzat is willing to return the favor in the near future. As of now Khamzat might face Colby Covington, Leon Edwards or Kamaru Usman in his next fight. So, fight fans were speculating that if Khamzat ever wins the belt he should defend it first against none other than Gilbert Burns.

Let’s see what the future offers for Khamzat and if Burns will get the opportunity to take his revenge.
