Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev is now proven to be one of the best welterweights on the planet after his recent win against #2 welterweight, Gilbert burns. His performance against Gilbert was unlike his previous performances against other opponents. There were moments in the fight where Khamzat was vulnerable and was forced to overcome adversity and he did just that.
However, it showed that Khamzat is indeed a human. Khamzat himself was very critical of his performance and expressed his sentiments about the fight in the post-fight interview where he stated, “I’m happy. These are the things I was waiting for a long time. Now I’m bloody. I’m tired. I feel a little bit of pain. I love this s***.”
“I want to finish everybody”- Khamzat Chimaev is more motivated than ever after UFC 273
Following his win at UFC 273, it is sure that if Chimaev has ambitions to be a title challenger at welterweight and middleweight, he needs to level up and gain more experience in order to be successful in that endeavor. Furthermore, the same was stated by Chimaev in the post-fight interview.
“We go back home, Sweden, get some recovery and train harder, I am gonna train harder and now I have more motivation because I did not finish that guy and I want to finish everybody,” Khamzat said.
Khamzat is an exciting prospect and the fact he recognizes that he needs to put in more effort and garner experience fighting top-tier fighters in the UFC makes him more legitimate an athlete who is aware that he needs to keep evolving.
This opens up new avenues for Khamzat Chimaev now that he has cracked the top 5, white hinted the next appropriate fight would be at former UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington being Khamzat Chimaev’s next opponent following UFC 273. It is a stylistically exciting matchup and both these competitors are polarising figures in the MMA community so no doubt if the fight ends up happening it, would be a spectacle for the sport.
