Khamzat Chimaev hails Jon Jones as the best fighter of our era, dismisses Kamaru Usman as the P4P king
Khamzat Chimaev on Jon Jones and Kamaru Usman
Jon Jones has another name to add to the list of fighters that consider the former lightweight champion the greatest of all time. One of the biggest prospects in the welterweight division, Khamzat Chimaev rates Jones in the highest order. Being a dominant fighter himself, Khamzat can only applaud the dominance of someone like Jones in his fighting career.
Jones has the greatest resume of all fighters in MMA, undoubtedly. The fighter has the most title defenses in the history of the promotion and is also the youngest champion. Jones has a record of 26-1-0 and his only loss comes from a disqualification. Chimaev believes though Jones has put some great numbers, they alone don’t do justice to his greatness.
In a recent interview with Henry Cejudo, Khamzat had nothing but praise for Jones, he said, “He beat not easy fighters, crazy good fighters with knockout power and the ground was good, everything was like perfect. And DC with the pressure and wrestling, he has good boxing, his mentality is like just pressure the fighters and kill them, you know? He stopped that guy as well.”
Khamzat Chimaev believes Jon Jones deserves to be on the top of the P4P list
Khamzat is booked to take on the former welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. This is the biggest fight of Chimaev’s career, and he is looking to make a statement out of this. Khamzat plans on becoming the first three-division champ in the UFC, and P4P number 1, Kamaru Usman is the first one on his hit list.
Usman is helping Burns prepare for this fight, and Khamzat really hopes he serves in his corner as well. He plans on finishing Burns in the very first round, and then he’ll walk over to Usman, and probably fight him on the same night as well. Khamzat appeared on the UFC 273 media scrum, and someone asked him if he agrees with Usman being on the top of the P4P rankings.
He dismissed him as the greatest fighter of our era, and said, “When Jon Jones is still here, nobody can be pound for pound (number one)”
