Irrespective of the official announcement, the title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is expected to occur at UFC 309. Ahead of the fight, the MMA community is against Dana White for choosing Miocic over Tom Aspinall as the challenger. However, some experts believe that the CEO is doing the right thing. UFC legend Chael Sonnen is one among them.
Most fight fans believe Miocic is old and shouldn’t fight Jon Jones. This was the matter of discussion at White’s last press conference at Contender Series. During the conversation, White passionately argued with everyone and tried to convince them that Jones vs. Miocic was the right call. Sonnen recently took to his YouTube channel and mentioned that the MMA fans are being disrespectful towards Miocic.

Sonnen said nothing has changed since Jones and Miocic were initially scheduled to fight at UFC 295. The UFC veteran agreed with White, giving Miocic the title shot over Aspinall. The community and media do not agree with it and are on the side of Aspinall, who is doing everything right to get a title shot.
For Jon Jones, winning against Miocic is a way to establish his dominance over the heavyweight legacy. However, Aspinall took this opportunity to mock the champion and accused him of being afraid. Does the insults from Aspinall make Jones change his mind? Only Jones has the answer to that question.
Jon Jones’ star power privilege prevails over deserving fight
Jon Jones has been in the promotion for more than two decades and has defeated some of the best fighters. Jones has amassed a huge fan base throughout his career. The fans are desperate to see him back in the octagon. On top of it, his contribution to the company and its history is undeniable.
Similarly, Stipe Miocic has also made an identical contribution to Jones and is regarded as the heavyweight GOAT. No UFC fighter has ever defended the heavyweight belt three times in a row other than Miocic. According to Daniel Cormier, these factors affected the matchmaking of their fight.

On the same note, DC is also in favor of Tom Aspinall getting his much-deserving title shot. He also revealed that the interim champion is doing a great job triggering Jones to give him a title shot. This heavyweight dynamic has been nothing short of entertaining, and UFC is definitely taking note of it all.
