“Let’s not get carried away”- Kamaru Usman dismisses Colby Covington as a threat in the welterweight division

Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington have quite a lot of history between them after they fought each other twice with both the times the decision leaning towards Kamaru, he thinks that Colby has yet a lot of work to do to get another shot at the title.
Kamaru in an interview with ESPN said: “Right now it doesn’t make sense. Go out there and sell yourself. There’s a guy in the division that everyone is kinda giving all this hoopla about, so go out there. There’s a couple more fights you need to take on – you haven’t fought Gilbert Burns, you haven’t fought Vicente Luque, you haven’t fought Chimaev. So, yeah, go out there and get a couple of wins. Then, continue to sell yourself, and you can stake that claim and people won’t deny you.”
When asked if Colby was the biggest ‘Threat’ Kamaru has right now, Kamaru replied with a ‘Let’s not get carried away, I wouldn’t say threat’ in a condescending tone, pointing towards other fighters like Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns who he is yet to fight while Kamaru says that he’s been ‘Lapping’ these guys up.

The Welterweight division has been an exciting division with a lot of tough competition on the rise, especially with the hype train Khamzat Chimaev on the rise for the title who might also face Burns in the next UFC main event. Kamaru on the other hand will face Leon Edwards for his next title defense.
Kamaru says that there are matches amongst the top five which are yet to be made to get a clear-cut contender number one which is the only person who he would consider but until then, he says that he would just love to sit back with some popcorn while his hand heals.
Usman also adds that there are some pretty exciting fights to make before anyone gets a title shot, while looking back on how much Kamaru had to struggle and had to clear out the whole division until he got a title shot back in the day.
