UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman is not far enough to surpass the great Georges St-Pierre in welterweight legacy in the UFC if he continues on with the pace he is. Usman, who has defended the title a whopping 5 times since 2019, has the most title defences amongst the current roster of UFC champions, has the longest active winning streak in the UFC and second-longest in UFC history and has a takedown defence nearing almost to hundred per cent, if not the full.

The kind of resume Usman has is magnificent in itself for the “Nigerian Nightmare” has won over the likes of Colby Covington (twice), Jorge Masvidal (twice), Rafael Dos Anjos, Tyron Woodley, Gilbert Burns, Demian Maia, Sean Strickland, Leon Edwards and many more. Usman, who’s also the leading fighter in UFC’s pound for pound list, is most likely going to fight Leon Edwards in a rematch at this year’s UFC International Fight Week.

In an interview with American sports analyst Shannon Sharpe, Usman tells what makes an athlete to be on the top of his game and in addition to that, be on top at an exceptional level in this world.

Being able, to be honest with yourself,” says Usman suggesting it as the core part of this aforementioned special athlete. “It’s not just drinking your own Cool-Aid but being honest with yourself because if you are weak in an area, you’re going, to be honest with yourself and say ‘I am weak there I need to get better’ and that’s why I see a lot of people can’t do that because they get to a certain level and they’re good at something they’re like oh no I’m not weak at nowhere, I know I’m still weak, I’m still learning to this day, concludes Usman.
