The number 4th ranked UFC women’s strawweight fighter, Mackenzie Dern entered the Octagon to face the number 6th ranked women’s strawweight fighter, Marina Rodriguez in the main event of UFC Vegas 39. This was Dern’s first main event fight in her UFC career and she faced a unanimous decision loss in this one.

Mackenzie Dern is a jiu-jitsu specialist and she had a really good second round in the fight, where she was able to keep Rodriguez on the mat for around 4 minutes. But apart from that round, Marina Rodriguez won all the other rounds in a dominating way and won the fight by a score of 49-46 on each judge’s scorecard.

Dern was the betting favorite entering into this fight but Rodriguez turned the odds in her favor after the third round and ended up winning this one. With this win, Marina Rodriguez will move closer to getting the title shot and Mackenzie Dern will go back again in the mix.
