“She shouldn’t be in the rankings” Marina Rodriguez blasts Joanna Jedrzejczyk after UFC Vegas 39 win
Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Marina Rodriguez
The Brazilian mixed martial artist and the current women strawweight division contender, Marina Rodriguez recently registered a phenomenal win against Mackenzie Dern. Rodriguez defeated Dern via unanimous decision UFC Vegas 39 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rodriguez now wants to push herself and be limitless. She wants to defeat everyone who comes in her way but she doesn’t want to fight with Joanna Jedrzejczyk, in the UFC Vegas 39 post-fight interview when she was asked about her fight with former UFC champion, Jedrzejczyk, Marina Rodriguez says,
“Honestly, Joanna’s already said she doesn’t want to fight me, Let’s be honest, she shouldn’t even be ranked anymore at this point. She’s been out of action for so long and if she doesn’t want to fight me, I guess I don’t want to fight her, too.”
She added, “The problem is she’s holding a very important spot in the rankings and there’s so many girls there fighting twice a year, three times a year, trying to get to that and that spot is locked. If it’s not her, [Yan Xioanan] would be a good fight, she’s ahead anyways so that’s how I have to keep moving.”
“Just keep moving forward and if the title fight happens and they want to defend quickly, give it to Carla after that. Maybe I can fight again, cool. If not, just give me someone else and we’ll keep on moving.” {H/T MMA Fighting}
Marina Rodriguez doesn’t want to sit around too long for the title shot
Marina Rodriguez earned three straight wins in the year 2021 and now she doesn’t intend to sit around long, waiting for the title shot. Rose Namajunas and Zhang Weili will face each other in a rematch at UFC 269 and the winner will take at least six months to fight again, according to Rodriguez, which is why she is ready for any other exciting fight as well.
Rodriguez added, “We know once someone defends the title it’s going to be at least six months before they fight again, So that puts me in a tough spot because if I’m going to wait for it too, we’re talking about a year [long layoff].”
“There’s a bunch of girls ahead of me. If I’m not next in line, I’d have to fight someone else and there’s a lot of interesting fights ahead.”
