“Went into that one a little bit overconfident”- Michael Bisping breaks down Khamzat Chimaev’s approach against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273

Khamzat Chimaev fought Gilbert Burns at UFC 273, and he was a big favorite coming into this fight. Khamzat was ranked 11 before this fight, and Burns number 2. Burns brought the fight to Khamzat, and there were moments when he almost stopped Chimaev.

Khamzat received a word of advice from his corner, and took a more calculated approach to the fight, he stayed true to his gameplan, and did enough to get the better end of a unanimous decision. Many criticized Khamzat after this fight, and they thought his hype train is over, they said Burns almost defeated Khamzat, and he isn’t ready to face the elites of the division.

UFC president, Dana White was more than happy with his performance, he says Khamzat did a great job against his first real challenge, and he actually passed the test with flying colors. Michael Bisping was keeping a close eye on the contest, and he had some major takeaways from the fight.

Talking about it in his YouTube video, he said, “Khamzat’s gonna learn and grow from that because he approached that fight, I think Khamzat went into that one a little bit overconfident. I’m not saying he rested on his laurels, I’m not saying he was complacent in training camp… but I think he went in there expecting to steamroll Gilbert Burns. He thought he would just go right through him, and you can’t always think that.”

“He can be the hammer and the nail”- Michael Bisping was impressed by Khamzat Chimaev’s resilience at UFC 273

Bisping said Khamzat’s confidence acted against him in this fight, but now we know that he is tough as a nail, and with a little more preparation, he can definitely hang with the elites of the division, “There was no f****ng opposition, there was no stopping him whatsoever,” Michael said. “So history has shown Khamzat that’s what he can do, so he thought that’s what was gonna happen again. That’s why he was sitting on the fence with Darren Till looking like he was waiting for a bus, all calm and collected. But Gilbert Burns came to fight.”

“Here’s what Khazmat proved: he can be the hammer and the nail. It’s all good going out there and destroying your opposition. Everybody loves that, everybody wants to see that, everybody wants to do that, but the question still remains, ‘Can he take a kicking and keep on ticking?” Bisping concluded.
